Parks

The South Shore is blessed with beautiful parks which has been identified as a primary reason why many citizens choose this location for owning homes.

  • Advocate for care of the parks
  • Support the many great Friends of the Park groups in the South Shore
  • Obtain a fair share of resources for South Shore Parks
  • Sponsor more activities in the parks

Pedal in the Park with Pat
Pedal in the parkSince taking office, I have sponsored the easy five mile bike ride called, Pedal in the Park with Pat.  It is a favorite activity of mine and most recently we have ended with a Blue Grass Concert.  Why do this?  It brings folks to the park.  Our trail system is one of the finest and gives me a chance to be in a casual setting with constituents.

In 2010, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Grant Park and in 2013, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Sheridan Park.  For the Grant Park centennial we had the county executive, Bishop Listecki and Sue Black come and help us rededicate this great park.  We have big plans for 2013 so stay tuned.  Click here to a smile box slide show.

Friends of the Parks
With dwindling resources, the Friends Groups help to keep the parks clean, safe and up to date.  Much private fund raising is done to help the parks.  It is the mission of any elected official to support these great folks, and it has certainly been part of my activities.  My office will continue to make these groups vital and support them as they ask.

New Dog Park
The new Warnimont Dog Park has been one of the most popular additions to our South Shore parks.  I constantly get positive comments.

Saving resources in our parks like the Mill Pond shown in this picture will be a formidable task as our tax resources to support the parks has dwindled.  It will be important to advocate for this park and all the South Shore parks in the years to come.
